Friendship

Friendship to me is a very important thing, it is one of the things my life is based on. A true friendship is a relationship between two people that share common likes and dislikes making them able to connect on a greater level than that of other people. This friendship is not based on material good or but of a mental connection between the two. A mental connection that in not easily broken and that strengthens over time, and as more experiences are added to the friendship.
These are the characteristics of a True friendship, but this type of friendship is a rare one. Normally people say that they are "friends," with everyone. They say this because they are able to tolerate that person and is able to converse with them and spend time with them. But this does not mean that they are truly friends, this only means that they are acquaintances. Today the word friendship is used to a point were it has lost most of its meaning, today a stranger in the street could be your friend which does not fit into what Emerson defines as a friendship. In our society everyone is our friend, but when we analyze these "friendships," one will realize that we really don't know anything about our so called friends. Yes it is important to have friends but it is also important that we make it clear who is our Friend and acquaintance.

Hey, I really liked how you discussed how friends shouldn't have to like the same things. I know a bunch of people who have completely different views and are best friends with each other. In all, great Essay.
