Friendship to me is a very important thing, it is one of the things my life is based on. A true friendship is a relationship between two people that share common likes and dislikes making them able to connect on a greater level than that of other people. This friendship is not based on material good or but of a mental connection between the two. A mental connection that in not easily broken and that strengthens over time, and as more experiences are added to the friendship.
These are the characteristics of a True friendship, but this type of friendship is a rare one. Normally people say that they are "friends," with everyone. They say this because they are able to tolerate that person and is able to converse with them and spend time with them. But this does not mean that they are truly friends, this only means that they are acquaintances. Today the word friendship is used to a point were it has lost most of its meaning, today a stranger in the street could be your friend which does not fit into what Emerson defines as a friendship. In our society everyone is our friend, but when we analyze these "friendships," one will realize that we really don't know anything about our so called friends. Yes it is important to have friends but it is also important that we make it clear who is our Friend and acquaintance.

Nature
In nature we gain the ability to connect with our inner mind. In nature we are set free from our earthly limitations and our the pressures set before us by society. Nature is a place were we are able to be ourselves without having to constantly live up to standards. Emerson shows us that nature brings out the best in us. I agree with this because in nature there are no limitations for what we are able to do. If we set our mind to something we are able to achieve it, its just a matter of determination.
Also in nature every aspect of life is at its simplest which lets us see everything in a different view than if we looked at life normally. Seeing everything in a simplicity lets us understand their meaning and there existence, because it lets us observe how there intended to work. Simplicity is the only way we are able to remove our prejudices and judgments that we have obtained from our society that is centered around cities, these cities are full of people crowded into a fixed space. Also in a society that everyone has no time to spare because they are so self centered only trying to achieve their "goals" and ignoring or stepping on other to achieve them. Nature is our only LAST escape that has the ability to allow us to see our true self, to allow us to escape from societies pressures, to allows us to understand our lives.

Gifts
A true gift are rarely found today in a society that is so centered around physical objects. Were a gift is measured purely on how expensive it was or how much it will benefit the person that is receiving the gift. According to Emerson a true gift is a gift given by the heart of the giver, it does not have to cost a lot of money or benefit the person, it just has to be given from the heart. A true gift must be part of the giver it must be something that is special to them or a personal gift. A gift given that has no sentimental value is not a true gift, a gift must have a meaning behind it. It must have a message that will be delivered to the receiver that will change or affect their life.
But also not all of the burden is on the person who is giving the gift, the receiver must also be willing to accept the gift. The receiver must not be expecting a big expensive gift, if they do so they are building an idea of what they "want" or must "have." These ideas will only diminish the actual gift, due to that it does not meet the previous expectations. The receiver must accept the gift honestly, not just to make the giver happy. If one does that they are only showing false happiness that the giver notices which will only cause harm to both people. One must be willing to accept what ever they receive no matter if it what they "wanted," but also to accept the gift with sincerity and thank the giver for thinking of you and getting you this present. Also the receiver has to think about what this gift means to the giver, for one a small object might mean nothing but to the person giving you it might mean the world. As a receiver you have to think what you received means, objects have more meaning than just a physical one there is a emotional side to everything.

Self-Reliance
“What I must do, is all that concerns me, not what other people think.” –Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ones own thoughts are hard to understand, normally our own thoughts are crowded and mixed up by others. Other people in our life influence us in many ways, especially in our thinking. Your thought is manipulated daily, through school, the media, people around us change how we think. Yes, it is important to understand everyone else but it is pointless to understand everyone else when one does not understand themselves.
If one understands the thoughts of others it is pointless if they do not realize what they gain. They must gain something or else there thoughts are wasted. The ability gained is the ability to separate others thought's to ones own thoughts. Once you have the ability one is able to see clearly the difference between what one believes and what others believe.
For one to be in touch with themselves they must first ignore society and see whats inside. No one is able to get in touch with there inner self if they are worrying about what other people are thinking about. It is necessary to exclude what others think about you, those thoughts are irrelevant to your persona. What others think should not have an affect on our life, we should be able to live our own life based on our thought and that alone. Our life is based only on what we think it is, only our thoughts and actions affect our lives. Once we are able to realize that we control our life and that no one else can affect it, then we have control over it.
